Things to Do in Kollengode, Palakkad
Activities and experiences at & around Seetharkundu Resorts, Kerala’s Western Ghats
Kollengode sits at a rare intersection of landscape types - the flat Palakkad plains meet the steep Nelliyampathy range of the Western Ghats, creating a world of waterfalls, forest trails, herbal plantations, misty viewpoints, and bird-rich shola corridors, all within a few kilometres of each other. This is not a place where you run out of things to do - it is a place where you wish you had more days.
At Seetharkundu Resorts, every activity has been carefully chosen to connect you with what makes Kollengode extraordinary - the natural environment, the herbal plantation heritage, the wildlife of the Nelliyampathy hills, and the unhurried pace of life that this part of Palakkad has preserved. Whether you prefer gentle morning walks, adrenaline-edged hill treks, meditative yoga sessions, or evenings around a campfire under an open sky, you will find your rhythm here.
Most activities are included or available to book at the resort. No need to organise transport, guides, or equipment separately - our team handles everything.

Seetharkundu Waterfalls Walk
The most iconic activity at Seetharkundu Resorts - and the one every guest does first. A short, shaded trail from the resort leads to the Seetharkundu Waterfalls, a powerful multi-tier fall that surges through a natural rock amphitheatre in the Nelliyampathy foothills. The morning visit - when light filters through the forest canopy and the pool below is still and clear - is particularly magical. The sunset visit on your final evening makes for a perfect farewell. Our guides accompany all waterfall visits, ensuring safe approach and the best photo positions. The trail is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
Best time: Early morning (8–10 AM) or late afternoon (4–6 PM) for optimal light. Waterfalls are most powerful during and just after monsoon (July–October).
Enquire on WhatsAppNelliyampathy Hill Trek
The Nelliyampathy hills are among Kerala’s most rewarding trekking destinations - and from Seetharkundu Resorts, they are your backyard. Our guided treks traverse shola forest edges, tea and coffee estate trails, and rocky ridge paths that reveal sweeping views of the Palakkad plains below. The Angamoozhy ghat road itself is a visual experience - 37 hairpin bends through a dense forest canopy. Treks are available in half-day (Meenampara focus) and full-day (deep forest trails + viewpoints + estates) formats. Our guides carry first-aid kits and know the terrain in every season.
Best time: October to March for cool conditions and clear viewpoints. Wear sturdy footwear; carry water and a light jacket for higher elevations.
Enquire on WhatsAppMountain Cycling on Forest Roads
The forest roads around Kollengode are among the most beautiful cycling routes in Palakkad district - shaded by old trees, lined with plantation greenery, and alive with the sounds of the Western Ghats. You can follow routes designed for different fitness levels. The beginner route winds gently through the plantation landscape; the intermediate route takes cyclists deeper into the forested foothills with more elevation change. This is a morning activity best enjoyed before the midday heat - the cool air and birdsong make it one of our most popular resort experiences.
Best time: 7–10 AM for the coolest temperature & best bird activity.
Enquire on WhatsAppBird Watching — Dawn Forest Walks
The Nelliyampathy corridor is one of Kerala’s most important bird habitats - a transition zone between the Western Ghats shola forests and the plains, which creates extraordinary bird diversity. Over 200 species have been recorded in the area around Seetharkundu Resorts, including several Western Ghats endemics. Regular sightings include the Malabar Grey Hornbill, Malabar Whistling Thrush, Blue-winged Parakeet, Crimson-backed Sunbird, Jungle Owlet, and various raptors. Our dawn walks begin at first light (6 AM) when bird activity peaks - quiet, slow-moving walks along the plantation edge and forest path. Binoculars provided.
Best time: October to March for resident birds; April to May for breeding plumage. Monsoon brings migrants. Wear muted colours; avoid perfume.
Enquire on WhatsAppHerbal Plantation Guided Tour
Seetharkundu Herbal Plantations is not just the company’s name - it is a living, working herbal garden that is the resort’s soul. Our guided plantation tour introduces guests to dozens of indigenous medicinal plants cultivated on the property, their traditional uses in Kerala Ayurvedic medicine, and the sustainable agricultural practices that have been maintained across generations. You will walk among Brahmi, Ashwagandha, Neem, Tulsi, Vetiver, and many endemic Western Ghats herbs, guided by a naturalist who can answer every question. The plantation is most fragrant in the early morning - the coolest and most atmospheric time to visit.
Best time: 7–9 AM when dew is on the leaves and the fragrance is strongest. Fascinating for adults and children alike.
Enquire on WhatsAppYoga & Wellness Sessions
Few settings are as conducive to yoga as the hillside terrace at Seetharkundu Resorts at dawn - the air is cool, the valley is quiet, the hills glow orange at first light, and the only sounds are birdsong and the distant waterfall. Morning yoga sessions are conducted by our trained instructor and are open to all experience levels. Sessions cover Hatha Yoga and Pranayama breathing practices with particular emphasis on mindfulness and connection with the natural surroundings. Couples yoga sessions are also available as part of our honeymoon and wellness packages. Yoga mats and props are provided. No prior experience necessary - these sessions are as much about stillness as they are about postures.
Best time: 6:30–8:00 AM. Pre-booking recommended to secure your preferred date and time.
Enquire on WhatsAppCampfire Evening
There is something irreplaceable about an open fire under a hill sky. Our campfire evenings are set in the resort’s dedicated outdoor fire area, with seating arranged around a wood fire under the open sky. The Nelliyampathy hills form the silhouette beyond, and on clear nights the star visibility in Kollengode - far from city light pollution - is extraordinary. Campfire evenings include snacks, local Kerala roasted items, hot chai, and the option to add a barbecue spread. This is an ideal group or family activity - stories, songs, stargazing, and the kind of evening that you will talk about long after you leave Kollengode.
Best time: October to February when nights are cool and clear. Campfires are not available during high fire-risk months (March to May).
Enquire on WhatsAppMeenampara & Nelliyampathy Viewpoints
Meenampara viewpoint in the Nelliyampathy hills offers one of the most dramatic panoramas in all of Kerala - the entire Palakkad plains unfold below you, stretching to the Tamil Nadu border, framed by the peaks of the Western Ghats on either side. On clear mornings the view extends 60+ kilometres. The drive up the Angamoozhy ghat road - 37 hairpin bends through dense canopy - is itself a spectacular experience. Our guided half-day trips include Meenampara, a stop at the Nelliyampathy tea and coffee estates for a plantation walk, and the Angamoozhy Reservoir. Sunrise visits (departing the resort at 5:30 AM) are unforgettable.
Best time: October to March for clear views. Sunrise or late afternoon for best light.
Enquire on WhatsAppCandlelight & Outdoor Dining
Dining at Seetharkundu Resorts is not a utilitarian experience - it is part of what makes a stay here special. Our candlelight dinner option sets a private table on the hillside terrace or garden, with the Nelliyampathy hills as your backdrop and the valley below lit by moonlight. The menu is curated Kerala cuisine prepared from locally sourced ingredients - fresh seasonal vegetables, river fish, traditional spice preparations, and home-style curries that carry the flavour of Palakkad. Outdoor breakfast on the balcony or terrace, afternoon tea by the plantation edge, and evening BBQ arrangements are all available on request. Food at Seetharkundu is an experience, not an afterthought.
Advance notice: Candlelight dinners and special arrangements require at least 6 hours notice. Mention at check-in or via WhatsApp.
