Seetharkundu Waterfalls, Kollengode
One of Palakkad’s most beautiful natural landmarks -; in the heart of Kerala’s Western Ghats
About Seetharkundu Waterfalls
A powerful, multi-tier cascade in the Nelliyampathy foothills, Kollengode, Palakkad
Hidden in the lush foothills of the Nelliyampathy range in Kollengode, Palakkad, the Seetharkundu Waterfalls is one of Kerala’s most captivating and least-crowded natural waterfall destinations. Fed by the seasonal streams that flow down the Western Ghats escarpment, the waterfall plunges through a series of natural rock terraces into a clear, boulder-lined pool below - surrounded on all sides by the dense green canopy of the Nelliyampathy forest.
What makes Seetharkundu Waterfalls exceptional is not just its visual beauty, but the intimate setting in which it exists. Unlike the overcrowded waterfall destinations of mainstream Kerala tourism, Seetharkundu retains the quality that waterfalls in their natural state should have - the sound of the water filling the air, the cool mist on your face, the filtered forest light, and the absence of concrete, vendors, and crowds. The trail from Seetharkundu Resorts to the waterfalls takes you through the herbal plantation and along a shaded forest path - so the journey itself becomes part of the experience.
The waterfall area has been carefully managed by the resort to preserve the surrounding ecology. Visitors are guided throughout, and responsible access guidelines protect the waterfall pool and the forest edge. This is a place to experience with reverence - and to leave exactly as you found it.
Insider Tip: The best time to visit is between 7:30 and 10:00 AM when the morning light filters through the forest canopy and illuminates the falls from above. On misty mornings after overnight rain, the entire forest path to the waterfall fills with low cloud - an extraordinary sight that photographers consistently rate as their most memorable image from Palakkad.
